The demand for pastoral care is increasing daily. Caritas Care offers a comprehensive two-year advanced certificate course in pastoral counseling, accredited by the University of Pretoria. This course is designed to equip students with the skills to bring hope and healing to a wide variety of situations while deepening their understanding of personal relationships.

Course Content

Methods of course presentation

• In-person lectures are presented in Mossel Bay.
• Zoom classes are presented for students outside of Mossel Bay.
• Each lecture is 3 hours in duration, so it is important that students using the Zoom option have access to uncapped wi-fi to ensure quality of participation.

Classes

• Two classes of three hours each are presented every second week.
Tuesday mornings: 09h00 – 12h00 AND
Thursday mornings: 09h00 – 12h00
OR
Tuesday evenings: 18h00 – 21h00 AND
Thursday evenings: 18h00 – 21h00

Preparation for classes:

Reading material for each class will be prepared by the lecturers and made available to each student. Keeping up to date with course work contributes greatly to your success in this course.

Successful completion of the course results in a course certificate from the University of Pretoria.

Minimum requirements for certification:

1. Each student must submit a total of five assignments.
During the first year, the following assignments are compulsory:
        • Power discourses
        • Theology discourses
During the second year, students have a choice of three assignments from the following:
        • Addiction
        • Marriage and relationship counselling
        • Trauma
        • Abuse
        • Depression and anxiety
2. Each student must have 80% class attendance.
3. All course fees must be settled at the end of the second year.

Next steps:

  • After the second year, learning continues.
  • Caritas offers Alumni classes throughout every year.
  • During these classes, relevant topics are discussed in depth, such as narcissism, Poly Vagal Theory, Neurology and relationships in theological conversations.
  • Alumni classes are three hours each and are presented on Wednesday mornings or evenings, every second week.

Starting dates and deadlines for enrolment:

The deadline for first year students to enroll is 15 January of the year commencing.

Costs and payment options 2025:

Costs for the two years of tuition amounts to R 22 400 (R11 200 per year).
A literature rights fee of R 200 is included.

First year Tuition fees:

R 11 200 (including the literature rights fee of R 200)

Option 1:
•  R2 000 deposit.
•  R 200 literature rights fee (once off) payable at registration.
•  10 x payments of R900 per month, starting February until November.

Option 2:
•  R 10 080 paid in full at the end of February 2024 ( R 11 200 less 10% discount)
•  R 200 literature rights fee (once off) payable at registration.

Total: R 10 280

Second year student’s deadline for enrolment for 2025 is December 15, 2024.

Option 1:
•  R2 000 deposit.
•  R 200 literature rights fee (once off) payable at registration.
•  10 x payments of R900 per month, starting February until November.

  • Bi-weekly Classes: Classes are held every alternate week, allowing for a balance between continued education and personal commitments.

Caritas Care Supervision Program

Overview

Caritas Care is proud to offer a comprehensive Supervision Program designed to enhance and refine the skills of Narrative Therapists and Counsellors. This program is tailored for graduates of our two-year Advanced Certificate in Pastoral Narrative Counselling qualification, who are committed to furthering their expertise in narrative practice. Our Supervision Program is an essential step for Narrative students aspiring to excel as counsellors, educators, leaders, or in other professional roles.

Program Requirements

The Supervision Program at Caritas Care is structured to ensure that participants receive thorough guidance and practical experience. The program consists of two primary requirements:

  1. Supervision Conversations and Alumni programme:
  • Participants will engage in regular supervision sessions with an experienced supervisor.
  • These conversations are designed to provide personalized feedback, address challenges, and support the ongoing development of the counsellor’s narrative practice skills.
  1. Practical Field Experience:
  • Participants are required to complete a set number of hours in a counselling session under the supervision of Dr André Botha. (Click on Dr André’s name to learn more about him)
  • This practical experience is crucial for applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, thereby solidifying the participant’s competence and confidence as a Narrative Counsellor.

Supervision Structure

  • Duration: The Supervision Program extends beyond the initial two-year Pastoral Narrative Certificate program, providing continuous professional development.
  • Format: The program involves both Alumni supervision sessions and hands-on client work. The exact number of required supervision conversations and practical hours will be tailored to meet the needs and goals of each participant.
